Before joining Nat Geo he spent 20 years as a journalist for NBC and ABC news. On this channel he shares some of the stories he produced for Nat Geo and NBC as well as new videos he creates exclusively for this channel. Matson is also a Fort Worth Camera Ambassador.

Point Bonita, just west of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge was the second lighthouse on the west coast. Built in 1855. it was last to be manned with a lighthouse keeper when it went fully automated in 1980. I documented the transition in this story for the Today Show in the final week the keepers were there. It’s still a working lighthouse & tourist attraction today.

Wow! He had a fabulous voice. It was tough to compete with other crooners like Sinatra who had everything. going for him. Guys like he and Jack Jones were cruise singers until something broke like a stint in Vegas. I know at one time he was broke so this might have been one of those tough times where a cruise gig paid the bills.
